Dr.Bhanubhatra Jittaing, Dr. Jiraporn Laocharoenwong and PGS students had the opportunity to visit Kudichin Community-Talat Noi on March 23, 2022. This trip provided a chance for students to visit important communities in order to broaden their urban and migration outlook and experience a wide variety of cross-cultural discoveries and relationships.

Students were introduced to the academic journey during their four years of study at Chulalongkorn University and our partner institutions, the University of Essex and the University of Queensland. They also learn about the programme structure, course outlines, and academic issues presented by programme committees, instructors, and support staff.

Chulalongkorn University is placed 1st in Thailand and 45th in the world for its pursuit of sustainability in Life on Land (SDG 15), and in the world’s top 101-200 tier for overall sustainability performance according to the release yesterday by the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings 2020 (THE Impact 2020), the only global performance scale that assesses universities against the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Of 766 participating universities from 85 countries around the world, Chulalongkorn scores 76.9 out of 100 in the overall score and is ranked 6th in ASEAN.  Khon Kaen University and King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi are two other Thai universities that make the cut to the top 101-200th tier in this sustainability ranking scheme.

As far as SDG 15 or Life on Land is concerned, this ranking explores universities’ research on biodiversity, climate change, water and food security as well as policy and social support for land ecosystems. 

Apart from Life on Land (SDG15), Chula’s outstanding sustainability scores are also reflected in the area of Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG12) in which it occupies the 87th place in the world.  Its scores in selected SDGs – SDG 3, SDG 11, and SDG 17 — Good Health and Well-Being, Sustainable Cities and Communities and Partnership for the Goals (in that respective order) are also ranked in the world’s top 101-200.

In this light, Chulalongkorn University has created an online platform showcasing its various contributions to sustainable development in this website: www.sustainability.chula.ac.th.  The university’s role and contributions to sustainable development are divided into four broad areas – teaching and learning, research and innovation, policy and operation and outreach and engagement. 

This year, THE University Impact Rankings 2020 ranked the University of Auckland from New Zealand as number 1 globally with 98.5 points, followed by two other universities from Australia — University of Sydney and Western Sydney University – with the scores of 98.1 and 97.9 respectively. 

Chulalongkorn University is the best university in Thailand for 20 subjects in this year’s QS World University Ranking by Subject – more than any other university in Thailand.

On the world scale, Development Studies at Chulalongkorn University continues to make the cut in the world’s top 51-100 while four other subjects – Architecture, Chemical Engineering, Geography, and Politics and International Studies – perform strongly in the 2020 World Ranking’s 101-150 top tier.

In the broader subject area categories as outlined by this world-famous university ranking scheme, Chulalongkorn University also ranks first nationally in four out of five subject areas; namely, Arts & Humanities, Engineering & Technology, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences & Management.  For Life Sciences & Medicine, Mahidol University tops the rank while Chulalongkorn comes in second.

According to Professor Surichai Wun’gaeo, professor emeritus and director of the Center for Peace and Conflict Studies at Chulalongkorn University, the exceptional performance of Development Studies at Chula (the university’s nickname) reflects more than ten years of efforts among converging forces at the university and exceptional advantage for Thailand to lead in the area.

“At Chula, we not only have a renowned international program in this area (Master of Arts in International Development Studies or MAIDS) but also several think tanks — Center for Peace and Conflict Studies, Institute of Social Research, Center for Social Development Studies — and a network of scholars and researchers who have contributed to redefine Development Studies into a multi-disciplinary and transgressive area of learning,” said Professor Surichai.

He also added that by being situated in the heart of Southeast Asia and a location of headquarters for several leading international organizations, Thailand also benefits significantly from resources in development experiences.  For more than a decade, Development Studies at Chulalongkorn University has constantly grown through collaboration, research and advocacy with this sector and the expanding civil society.

Today 29th January 2020, Faculty of Political Science by Associate Professor Jakkrit Sangkhamanee, PhD., Deputy Dean of Academic Affairs and PGS Director, along with staff from Office of International Academic Affairs, welcome teachers and students from Phuketwittayalai School at Smart Classroom, 7th Floor, Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University.

Associate Professor Jakkrit shares the overview of our faculty and academic guidance for students who aim to study at the Faculty Political Science. Students were introduced to the departments offered by the faculty, which are the Department of Government, International Relations, Sociology and Anthropology, Public Administration, and also the latest international program : “Politics and Global Studies"

During the session, we also have “P’Seagames” – president of Political Science Student Union and “P’Jha” - Head of Students of the Department of Public Administration, sharing the overview of campus life, learning technique, and tips on admission preparation.

On 28th October 2019, Our Executive Board of Politics and Global Studies (PGS) Program, the Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University together with Katrina Khairudin, Recruitment & Development Manager, University of Essex and Majella Ferguson, Senior Manager, International Services, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, University of Queensland, had officially launched Chulalongkorn's new international dual-degree program, "Politics and Global Studies" at Smart Classroom, 7th floor, Kasem Udhyanin Building, the Faculty of Political Science, Chulalongkorn University.

During the event, we introduce the program that offers the students two BA degrees, and let the students spend two years abroad and two years at Chulalongkorn University. They will receive the degree from both Chulalongkorn and the institution of their choice. The event had over 70 participants, including students, parents, and international programs representatives from both Thai and international schools.
